The UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering and the Rady School of Management have joined forces to create The Institute for the Global Entrepreneur to inspire and prepare engineers to be entrepreneurial leaders and translate technology innovations to market to fuel the economy and benefit society



The Institute for the Global Entrepreneur delivers a unique blend of education, mentorship, and real-world entrepreneurial experience. We merge a proven business curriculum with a technology acceleration environment that leverages UC San Diego’s research strengths - transforming discoveries into market impact.


  • Technology Acceleration: The IGE Technology Accelerator provides mentorship and funding for technical and business validation through field testing of near-market ready prototypes with industry partners or potential customers.
  • Business Acceleration: The Institute plans to announce its upcoming business accelerator program for UC San Diego affiliated startups in Fall 2018. The program will provide mentoring, business connections, and access to a network of Investor Partners.
  • Accelerator Partners: IGE has established a strong partnership with the Rady School StartR and mystartupXX Accelerator programs and plans to expand its joint activities to strengthen and expand our startup community.
  • Sponsored Accelerators: The Institute plans to collaborate with industry and investor partners to develop technology-focused acceleration programs. Announcements will begin in Fall 2018.


  • The Institute is home to one of the first and most active National Science Foundation sponsored, Innovation Corps, NSF I-Corps sites for training undergrad & graduate engineering and science innovators in the lean start-up and customer discovery methodology.
  • Our Technology Management and Entrepreneurism Certificate program matches Rady MBA candidates with Jacobs School graduate students for practical innovation training in a team environment.
  • Our Gordon Engineering Leadership Center is celebrating its 10 year anniversary - offering undergrad and graduate management and engineering leadership courses and workshops, hosting industry forums and community events - training the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders.


The Institute provides entrepreneurism and innovation training for a number of global strategic partners in Japan, Korea, Colombia, Honduras, and Chile. The Institute also partners with regional incubators, industry, and the venture community to ensure exciting discoveries are transferred to the marketplace.
